Unesco states that “Numbering at least 370-500 million, indigenous peoples represent the greater part of the world’s cultural diversity, and have created and speak the major share of the world’s almost 7000 languages”.

International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate these communities and their knowledge. This year’s theme is “The Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge”. Want to partake? The UN will be hosting a virtual commemoration on the 9th of August.

Photography allows us to freeze time, document and share precious moments in life. “Of course, having those memories is already very nice. Another advantage of photography is becoming a better self. Improve your vision and thinking by simply taking photos.” Frederic Paulussen

With World Photography Day coming up, why not take the time to go out and capture an image of the world around you. If you want to get involved with the campaign, you can even have your photography featured on the World Photography Website or share it on social media platforms using the caption #WorldPhotographyDay.
